An Evening with Martha Wainwright
The Kappy Lectures 2026
October 6, 6:00pm | Pollack Hall, Montreal
Presented by the McGill Council on Palliative Care in collaboration with the 50th Montreal International Palliative Care Congress. The 2026 edition is presented in collaboration with the Schulich School of Music, McGill University.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of conversation and song with acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright. In an intimate and moving exchange, Wainwright will reflect on a life shaped by one of music’s most celebrated families. Drawing on her extraordinary musical lineage—including Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Loudon Wainwright III, and Rufus Wainwright—Martha will reflect on a life shaped by music, family, love, loss, and artistic inheritance. Through stories and song, and in conversation with Dr. Andrea Creech, Professor of Music Pedagogy at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University, the evening will explore how artists carry grief, how folk music passes stories across generations, and how music more generally helps us navigate life’s most profound transitions.
